Lovatts Word of the Day

gaucherie

".. and Hepburn has occasion to rebuke him for his gaucherie..."

Gaucherie means social awkwardness or tactlessness, and comes from gauche, the French for 'left'. This stemmed from the former idea that lefthanded people looked awkward to right-handed people and therefore left-handedness was associated with clumsiness and even a sign of Satanic influence. So there you are, I'm a leftie myself so I'm both awkward and evil!
